DAY BLOCK | KRAKOW HISTORY

Educational Benefits:

Students will explore Kraków’s historical center and royal past, learning how the city developed from a medieval trading hub to Poland’s former capital. The day supports understanding of European history, cultural identity, and historical continuity through real places and stories.


Morning:

  • Introduction to Kraków’s medieval and royal history
  • Guided walk through the Old Town (UNESCO-listed)
  • Highlights include: St. Mary’s Basilica (exterior and trumpet legend), Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) and historical trading functions, Town Hall Tower and medieval fortifications, Collegium Maius courtyard – Jagiellonian University and the legacy of Copernicus
  • Insight into legends, daily life in the past, and Kraków as a cultural center

  • Visit to Wawel Castle courtyard and Wawel Cathedral. Coronation site of Polish kings
  • View of royal tombs, Sigismund Bell, and the architecture of different eras

  • Guided walk focused on architectural styles in Kraków
  • Examples: Gothic (St. Mary’s Basilica), Renaissance (Cloth Hall), Baroque (Sts. Peter and Paul Church), Art Nouveau (Palace of Art)
  • Learn how architecture reflects different periods in Kraków’s history
    Visit to a local church or university courtyard (e.g., Collegium Maius) to see art details up close

  • Start with a Kraków city game or scavenger hunt (Old Town or Kazimierz) Teams solve tasks, follow clues, and complete challenges
  • Stops at key landmarks like the Main Market Square, St. Mary’s Basilica (outside), and hidden corners with legends

  • Take part in a guided kayaking adventure on the Vistula River, paddling through scenic landscapes near Kraków while enjoying fresh air, gentle exercise, and great views of the Polish countryside.

DAY BLOCK | KRAKOW AND 2ND WORLD WAR HISTORY

Students will explore the impact of the Second World War on Kraków's Jewish community and the city’s role during the Nazi occupation. Through visits to historical sites and museums, they will learn about life under oppression, resistance efforts, and the importance of remembrance and human rights.

  • Guided walking tour through Kazimierz and Podgórze (former Ghetto)
  • Sites include: Remuh Synagogue and cemetery (outside view), Plac Bohaterów Getta (Ghetto Heroes Square)
    Fragments of the ghetto wall, Eagle Pharmacy (outside or short stop)
  • Stories of daily life under Nazi occupation and deportations

  • Visit to Schindler’s Factory Museum - Immersive permanent exhibition: “Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939–1945”. Life stories of Kraków residents, Jewish community, and Oskar Schindler’s factory workers. Self-guided or with museum educator
  • Optional: short visit to Galicia Jewish Museum (focus on Jewish memory and post-war legacy)

DAY BLOCK | AUSCHWITZ MEMORIAL VISIT 

Educational benefits:

Students will visit one of the most significant memorials of the Holocaust. The experience encourages reflection on human rights, dignity, and the consequences of hatred and totalitarian regimes. It helps students understand the importance of remembrance and moral responsibility.


Morning:

  • Departure from Kraków by private coach (approx. 1 hour 15 minutes)
  • Arrival at Auschwitz I - Start of the guided tour with a certified museum educator (in English)
  • Visit includes original barracks, exhibitions, prisoner photos, belongings, and execution wall
  • Silent and respectful walk through the grounds

  • Short transfer to Auschwitz II – Birkenau
  • Guided tour of the vast camp area including the railway ramp, ruins of gas chambers, and wooden barracks
  • Reflection on the scale of the tragedy and personal stories of those imprisoned here
  • Return to Kraków by late afternoon
